It’s All About Timing
“For all the most important things, the timing always sucks…”Tim Ferriss
It was 2009 we first picked up a book that was to contribute to our decision to re-think our retirement and we were inspired by the prospect of being able to live anywhere and join the new rich
That book was The 4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferris
And it couldn’t have come at a better time
Let’s explain
It was 2008 when all our dreams and goals for our retirement came crashing down
We’d invested all our savings into a world wide property portfolio so that when the time came to retire we could live off the passive income we would be receiving from the various rental options we had in place.
It was a turning point for us albeit we didn’t pull our heads out of the sand until late 2009 (you know how it is right!)
Would we invest in property again? Absolutely YES. We could have been put off forever but we’re not because we believe in financial freedom in retirement and investing in your future and leaving a legacy is important
We shared that story today because we were reading a very poignant email from our friend Matt the CMO of a program we promote as affiliates and from which that quote actually comes
It’s called Someday Disease and it’s from a book you are probably familiar with – The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss
“For all of the most important things, the timing always sucks
Waiting for a good time to quit your job? The stars will never align and the traffic lights of life will never all be green at the same time.
The universe doesn’t conspire against you, but it doesn’t go out of its way to line up the pins either. Conditions are never perfect.
“Someday” is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you” Pro and con lists are just as bad. If it’s important to you and you want to do it “eventually,” just do it and correct course along the way.”
Although a bit outdated today, over a decade ago it was considered to be the mini-bible on the online space and it shifted how we all thought about life work, passion, hobbies and relationships
And it carried a warning on the back of the boo “DO NOT READ THIS BOOK UNLESS YOU WANT A NEW WAY OF LIVING
Forget the old concept of retirement and saving for the future – there is no need to wait and every reason not to. Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, experiencing first class world travel, earning a monthly five figure income or just living more and working less, this book is the blueprint… it’s your step by step guide to living the life of your dreams”
For us it definitely peaked our interest and we were ready to get going with our affiliate marketing business
But we digress
Back to Matt the CMO we were talking about
At the time of reading that “someday” quote he was getting ready to get ready to get ready to get started with his online business
He had a few friends who were crushing it with affiliate marketing and he thought to himself “someday I’ll learn business and marketing and set up my own affiliate business… and then I’ll get going”
He goes on to say that after reading “someday is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you” something changed for him
He became a bit obsessive
He bought countless books on sales and marketing
He was working for $7/hr + tips as a barista and when he got off his shift at noon he would eat a quick bite and sit in a park for hours taking notes as he read or listened to books by Tony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, Dan Kennedy, Joe Vitale and more…
He bought courses on Search Engine Optimisation, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Information Marketing, and more…
He became obsessive
Both with learning and with taking action on what he learned
He says he has a firm belief that in order to transition from a mindset of “employee” to “entrepreneur” and to actually be successful with your new found skills over the long term, you must be obsessed
How like us he spent all expendable income (and racked up a few credit cards) buying literally hundreds of books and courses, listening to countless hours of podcasts and audiobooks, attending events
All because he knew that an investment in himself would one day pay off
And that’s how we felt too and his commitment and dedication did pay off in the same way it paid off for us
Today it’s the #one reason we refer people to the program where Matt is the CMO and where we know our students will get the very best education and training in marketing and building an online business
Where you get to hear from real people all over the world with incredible stories
Earning money with their digital businesses
Remember “someday is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you”.
It’s time to become obsessed, to dive deep, and take meaningful action right now…
